Abstract

|
Seasonal changes in occurrence of Phytophthora blight of pepper were investigated. In a selected observation field near Suweon city, diseased plants were first found 23 July 1974. Percentage of diseased plants increased rapidly early in August and September after frequent and heavy rainfalls.
Twenty varieties of pepper were tested for resistance to Phytophthora blight on flats in the greenhouse and in an outdoor nursery by soil infestation with mycelial suspension. Lesion development was checked on the detached leaves of Hungarian Wax and Kimjang-gochu by inoculation with single drops of zoosporangial suspension.
Sae-gochu and Kimjang-gochu showed relatively high resistance among the 20 varieties tested and the rate of lesion expansion was more rapid on the leaves of susceptible Hungarian Wax than resistant Kimjang-gochu.
